Travelers Rest Farmers Market names new director

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — The Travelers Rest Farmers Market board of directors has named a new market director for the 2017 season.

Travelers Rest resident and businesswoman Valerie Richardson replaces outgoing interim director Lily Feinman, who served in the position since last fall.

In making the announcement, board members said they were "excited for the potential the upcoming market season has under the leadership of Richardson", who is co-founder of the Travelers Rest Tribune and a recipient of the 2013 Greater Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year award.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to serve the community by helping to showcase our local and sustainable food scene as well as our area artisans at one of the greatest venues of its kind in the Upstate," Richardson said.

With more than 90 weekly vendors, the Travelers Rest Farmers Market is the largest independent nonprofit farmers market in South Carolina. The 2017 season runs from each Saturday from May 6 through Sept. 30 (8:30 a.m. - noon). Special events are held throughout the season, beginning with the annual plant sale that is scheduled for opening day.

The Travelers Rest Farmers Market is located at 225 Trailblazer Drive (formerly Wilhelm Winter Street) in Travelers Rest, S.C.

Market hours are from 8:30 a.m. - noon, every Saturday, May through September.
