Caroline Margaret Eschenberg Brown, 56 - Travelers Rest

Caroline Margaret Eschenberg Brown, 56, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 after an extended illness. Born in Washington, DC, Caroline had been a resident of the Greenville area for nearly 40 years. She is survived by her adoring parents, Dr. Horst H. H. Eschenberg and Floride Cothran Eschenberg of Greenville. Caroline is predeceased by her beloved husband Woodrow Powell Brown, Sr. and her brother Christian H. H. Eschenberg.

From very early on, Caroline had a passionate love for animals. She was an equestrian at a young age. There were also many canines who thrived in her care. Caroline delighted in the joy, laughter, companionship and comfort that her dogs provided. Her wonderful dogs, whom she nurtured until they crossed the rainbow bridge were Katie, Katie, Max, Noah, Chance and Bear.

Caroline received both her bachelor’s degree in German and master’s degree in Elementary Education from Furman University. She had a spirit of adventure and traveled extensively, particularly in Europe.

Not one to be beaten by adversity, Caroline participated as an athlete in the Transplant Olympics after her first organ transplant. She also went on to speak publicly to raise awareness about organ donation.

Caroline was a beloved first grade teacher at Pelham Road Elementary for many years. Her love for the children she taught was exemplified by her nurturing care, her gift of encouragement for each child to reach his or her potential, and her enjoyment of being with little ones each day. Caroline volunteered as a private tutor after leaving the teaching profession.

After retiring from teaching, Caroline took up writing children’s literature. Creating stories and interacting with her fellow authors gave her great joy. She had stories published in Guideposts, Clubhouse Jr. and Dog World magazines. Caroline's words, whether spoken or written, were always words of encouragement, validation, and love.
