Myra Garrett, 93 - Travelers Rest

Myra Donald Garrett, 93, of Travelers Rest, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Spring Park Senior Living.

Born in Hattiesburg, MS, she was the only child of the late Sime Shipes & Lydia Mae Ezell Donald. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Vernon Wallace Garrett. She was a loving mother to her two daughters, Beverly Nivens, Susan McKinney and her husband Bill; her three grandchildren, Lydia Wallis Larson (Phil), Claire Nivens Pasquinelli (Rich) and Brandon Hunter Nivens; and her two great grandchildren, Audrey Mae Larson and Phillip Robert Larson, Jr.

Mrs. Garrett touched many lives. In the 1940s she was one of fifty women who were Hostesses on Southern Railway passenger trains; she was the co-owner with her husband of Skyway Airstream Dealership in Travelers Rest; an active community volunteer; a member of the Mountain Laurel Garden Club; instrumental in placing the Poinsett Hotel in Greenville on the National Historic Register; involved in the formation of North Greenville Hospital; and a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Taylors First Baptist Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM Sunday afternoon in The Howze Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Jimmie Harley and Dr. James Pitts. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM Sunday at the mortuary before the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
