Mary Wylda Chandler, 79 – Pelzer

Mary Wylda Chandler, 79, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Wilton and Mary Helen Pearson Chandler. She taught at Travelers Rest High School for thirty-seven years and loved working with her students every day. A lifelong member of Washington Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and served as organist for twenty-five years.

Wylda spent her life rescuing and caring for animals and people that others would have cast aside. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Surviving are an aunt, Sara Pearson Banks, of Greenville; six first cousins, Diane Bledsoe, of Dalton, GA, Pamela Davis, of Laurens County, Dean Alverson, of Pelzer, Bill Banks, of Liberty, John Pearson, of Easley, Diane McCoy, of Simpsonville; and two special friends, Robert (Bobby) Korhn, of Abbeville, and Laura Lowry, of Pelzer.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the funeral service following.Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
