Outdoor Report: Upstate mountains in bloom (photos)

May has arrived and the forest floor in the Southern Blue Ridge is covered with the neon greens of emergent plants and the vibrant hues of our native wildflowers.
Coming in all shapes, sizes and species, the Upstate is home to an incredible array of botanical diversity. Though the Southern Blue Ridge Escarpment only occupies roughly 2% of South Carolina's land, it provides refuge for over 40% of the state's rare plant species.

Right now, a great place to see trillium is on our Naturaland Trust property off Civitan Camp Road and Highway 11, along the Mountain Bridge Passage Trail. It is open to the public for day use.
