Former Travelers Rest mayor, noted historian dies at 91
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Former Travelers Rest mayor and noted historian Mann Batson passed away on Friday at the age of 91.
Batson served as mayor in Travelers Rest from 1997 to 2001, was a past magistrate for Batesville Township, and was a two-term Greenville County council member.
Among other things, he was influential in saving Poinsett Bridge after it fell into private hands.
The author of five books on the history of northern Greeville County and a two-term member of the Greenville County Historic Preservation Commission, Batson also served as a teacher, principal and superintendent for two school districts.
