Travelers Rest man identified in fatal Poinsett Highway crash
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A 50-year-old Travelers Rest man man is dead following a one-car crash this weekend on Poinsett Highway, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
Larry Gene Banks, Jr. was driving an SUV north on Poinsett Highway near Cherrydale when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled through the front lawn of a home, ending up in a creek, Coroner B. Parks Evans said.

No one witnessed the collision, but a passerby noticed the crashed vehicle and notified police on Saturday evening.
Banks died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck, Evans said. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
This case is still under investigation by the Greenville County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
