Sheriff's Office warns public of fake firefighter scam

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a scam involving impersonators going door-to-door representing themselves as local firefighters.

Greenville County Sergeant Ryan Flood said that the suspects are attempting to gain entry into homes by requesting to check the residents' smoke detectors.

Flood said they have received reports involving both Duncan Chapel and Piedmont Park firefighter impersonators.

On at least one instance, the suspects were described as two white-males in their mid-20s, wearing blue t-shirts with cargo pants.

"At this time, investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, are working alongside the Greenville County Fire Chief’s Association to investigate these incidents," Flood said.
