Edward Spence, 57 - Greenville

Edward “Ed” Doane Spence, 57, of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, he was the adopted son of the late Charles Wilson Spence and Jean Jessee Gilmer.  He was a proud father of his two wonderful children - son, John William Spence, and daughter, Jessica Marie Spence.  He is survived by his two children and their mother, Madelen Spence, sister Laura Jean Spence, and step-mother Martha Wooten Spence.  He was predeceased by his sister, Susan Fay Spence, and his brother, Steven Randolph Spence.

He was most recently employed with Bechtel as a Commercial Manager, Equipment Operations.  He was also owner of EDS Equipment of Greenville.  Ed was known to be adventurous, traveled extensively, and lived in many parts of the world.  He worked hard and loved his work. Some may say he was “larger than life”.  He had a huge heart, was a great father and loved his children dearly.  He is gone from their life way too early and had so much left to teach. His stories, jokes, determination, and positive outlook will be deeply missed by family and friends.

There will be a memorial service held at the farm Ed grew up on in Travelers Rest at 259 Pine Log Ford Road on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at noon.  Family and friends are welcome and the service will be followed by food and fellowship.  In lieu of flowers, please keep Ed and his family in your prayers.
