Police release video taken prior to fatal crash
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest police have released dashcam video recorded just prior to last Wednesday's fatal two-car crash on Tubbs Mountain Road.
Donald Ray Brown, of Travelers Rest, was the driver of a vehicle that was struck by an SUV north of Williams Road around 5:30 p.m. Brown had to be extricated from his car and was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
The collision was discovered by Officer Jeremy Jones a short time after he attempted to stop a black SUV whose driver reportedly crossed a double yellow line on Poinsett Highway, according to Police Chief Lance Crowe.
As seen in the dashcam video, Jones activated his lights and siren and turned around to stop the vehicle, which he saw turn onto Tubbs Mountain Road. Jones followed the SUV, but decided to call off the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle, even while traveling in excess of 100 m.p.h.
After turning onto Williams Road where he turned his lights and siren off, Jones returned to Tubbs Mountain Road, finding the two-car collision a short time later.
According to warrants, Robert Lewis Frady, Jr., identified by police as the driver of the SUV, was arrested last Thursday evening on charges of DUI/felony driving under the influence resulting in death, failure to stop for blue lights and DUI/driving under suspension.
Frady, 50, was arrested at the time of his release from the hospital and is currently being held in the Greenville County Detention Center with no bond, Crowe said.
