Carl Secrest - Travelers Rest

Carl “Papa Carl” Secrest, of Travelers Rest, was tragically killed in a car accident on Fri., Sept. 1, 2017.

Carl was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church and was active in the “Set Free” prison ministry. He was a retired chef and well known in the area for his homemade cookies and BBQ dinners. Carl truly had a heart for the community and was always willing to help others in any way he could afford.

He had lost his wife, Paula, to cancer a few years ago and was fighting a battle with Parkinson’s disease which was taking a toll on his strength and abilities to cook and accomplish daily activities that many of us take for granted. Through all this, he continued to maintain a very hectic schedule with his desire to contribute what he could in the community.

There will be a visitation for friends and family at 3 p.m. and a “Celebration of Life” service at 4 p.m. at Marietta First Baptist Church on Sun., Oct. 1, 2017

In lieu of flowers, donations for the family may be left at George Coleman Ford, My Sister’s Store Books and More, and Sidewall Pizza in Travelers Rest.

There will also be a benefit yard sale on Sat., Sept. 23 and a Gospel Singing on Sun., Sept. 24 at My Sister’s Store Books and More. For more information, or if you want to make donations for the yard sale, please come by My Sister’s Store at 104 S. Poinsett Hwy at the corner of Main St. and State Park Rd. or call 864 804 3362.
