Free document shredding event set for Saturday in Travelers Rest

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. –  The Travelers Rest Historical Society will host a free document shredding event at the History Museum on Sat., Nov. 18.

Sponsored by Keep Greenville County Beautiful, the Greater Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce, and the Travelers Rest Historical Society, the event will provide area residents with secure, on-site document destruction.

The Federal Trade Commission estimates as many as 10 million Americans have their identities stolen each year, and one great way to deter thieves is to shred your personal identifying information before it's thrown away.

"We have all heard how easy identity theft is and how incredibly hard it is to fix," said Historical Society president Dot Bishop. "Shred day is a perfect opportunity to protect your financial information for free."

The event will run from 10 a.m. - noon in the parking lot of the museum, located on the corner of Hwy. 25 and Edwards Street.

Area residents can bring up to three large kitchen bags or three copy paper boxes filled with papers to be shredded.

Bags and boxes must be intact, with no rips or tears. Reusable bags, boxes or containers will be returned.
