Boulder falls and kills Florida teen hiking at Wildcat Falls

CLEVELAND, S.C. — A Florida teenager was killed around noon on Friday while hiking with a group near Wildcat Falls at Wildcat Wayside Park.

Jacob Bridges Acker, 18, was killed when a large boulder fell on him, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.

"While attempting to climb beside the falls, a large boulder shifted and then began to roll down the hill," coroner B. Park Evans said. "The boulder struck [Acker] before coming to rest."

Acker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death was ruled accidental, Fowler said.

Acker was from Neptune Beach, FL.

Wildcat Wayside Park is located on U.S. Hwy. 11 near Cleveland.
