City wins request for Tubbs Mountain Road resurfacing

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — City officials recently announced the portion of Tubbs Mountain Road that is within city limits will be repaved.

Owned by the state, the road has deteriorated due to funding constraints/prioritizing by the S.C. Dept. of Transportation.

Dissatisfied with the road's condition and repair patchwork, city officials have since 2016 brought the repaving request to the Greenville County Legislative Delegation Transportation Committee in an effort to get the work done with county funds.

With help from Rep. Mike Burns and CTC member Johnny Edwards, the request was recently approved by the committee.

The road from Poinsett Highway to the bridge just past Williams Road will be resurfaced, outgoing City Administrator Dianna Gracely said.

The project, estimated to cost around $500K, is supposed to be completed this year, Gracely said.

"Due to the deteriorated condition of the road, this project was long overdue," said Gracely, adding that both [Rep.] Burns and [committee member] Edwards were "instrumental" in appropriating the funds.
