Wendell Wilson, 77 - Travelers Rest
Wendell Wayne Wilson, 77, of Travelers Rest, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born November 26, 1940 in Spencer, IA, he was a son of the late Wayne Lester and Neva Darlene Myrick Wilson. Wendell earned his Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and attended North Carolina State University for graduate studies. Mr. Wilson was a Mathematical Statistician, served in the US Marine Corps Reserves for six years, and is a member of Travelers Rest United Methodist Church. Wendell worked for the Department of Agriculture for twenty-five years and for the United States Army Recruiting Command for eight years. He was a member of the American Legion and was a Lifetime member in the Marine Corps League. As an avid runner, Wendell ran many races including six marathons. He was past President of the Las Vegas Track Club and was always involved with a track club wherever he lived. He enjoyed the outdoors and having his dog Rocky accompany him on walks.
Surviving is the love of his life, his wife of fifty-two years, Bonnie Ann Minthorn Wilson. They were married September 11, 1966 and raised three children. One son: Craig Wilson (Karen), of SC; two daughters: Tammy Bernstein (Evan), of MD, and Lori Wilson (Chris Bushlow), of TX; He was a loved Papa to his eleven grandchildren. Wendell is also survived by his two brothers: Bryce Wilson and Keith Wilson. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by one brother: James Wilson.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Travelers Rest United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Graceland West Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest.
