Passenger dies following Highway 25 wreck

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — An 81-year-old woman died following a wreck on U.S. Hwy. 25 north of Travelers Rest on Monday night, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.

Phay Phongsavath, 81, of Greenville, died early Tuesday morning at Greenville Memorial Hospital, succumbing to injuries sustained in the crash.

Phongsavath was a passenger in the front seat of a northbound vehicle that was struck head-on when a southbound vehicle crossed the center line near Allen Road around 8:30 p.m.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, but their conditions are unknown.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was cited in the crash.
