James Dobbins, 76 - Travelers Rest

James “Jimmy” Buchanan Dobbins, 76, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Greenville Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family and close friends.

Born in Union Mills, NC, he was the son of the late William A. and Esther Buchanan Dobbins. Jimmy proudly served his country in the US Army and retired from Duke Power in 1998 after 20+ years of service. He was a Mason, member of the Sam Poe Lodge #284 and Monaghan Baptist Church.

At the age of 22, he married Brenda Arrowood, whom he has loved and adored for the past 53 years. From this loving union came a daughter, Natalie Dobbins-Belt, who is definitely a “Daddy’s Girl”. He has a granddaughter, Catherine Ashley Belt, who loved spending every minute she could with her Papa and also twin grandsons, Brad and Blake Belt, who looked up to their Papa. Also surviving are a sister, Doris Dobbins Glance and a brother, Frank Dobbins and wife Frances.

Because of this wonderful man, his wife, daughter and grandchildren have been blessed beyond measure. Jimmy was extremely loved, respected, and appreciated by all whose lives he touched. He generously helped anyone in need even a stranger, because he never met a stranger.

Along with his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by sisters: Elouise Dobbins Hill and Evelyn Dobbins Stairs; brothers: William B. Dobbins and an infant brother who passed at birth.

Visitation will be Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2018 from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. at the Howze Mortuary. A service will follow the visitation at 3 p.m. in The Howze Mortuary Chapel.

Burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. As many of you know, Jimmy had a special place in his heart for children.

The family will be at the home of his daughter, Natalie Dobbins-Belt.
