Cars, ice cream competition to highlight Friday's TR Town & Art Crawl

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — NASCAR and ice cream will be the focus of the next installment of the TR Town & Art Crawl, scheduled to take place from 6pm to 9 pm on Fri., June 8 in downtown Travelers Rest.

TOWN’S BEST ICE CREAM – We need your help in picking this years Town’s Best Ice Cream. The competition between restaurants will take place at the Gazebo in downtown Travelers Rest right across from Gray Mare Antiques. You will have the opportunity to taste ice cream from Pink Mama’s, TRee House Cafe, Sidewall Pizza and more, then cast your vote for the winner. Tasting spoons are $2 and all the proceeds raise from this tasting will go back into the community through the services of the Foothills Family Resources. Voting will begin at 6p and continue until 8p or until all the ice cream has been sampled. Votes will be counted and our winner announced at 8:30p!

LIVE MUSIC at MONKEY WRENCH - Come relax on the green space at Monkey Wrench with live music from Lisa Stubbs and Niel Brooks of Mourning Dove. Monkey Wrench, formerly Martha’s Hardware, is located at 21 S Main Street. Their outdoor green space has lots of outdoor games and relaxed seating. If you haven’t been by yet, this is a great opportunity to check out this wonderful new restaurant!

CARS! CARS! CARS! – Ready to see some race cars this Friday! We will have Marty Ward, David Darnell, Jamie Barbery, Jimmy Roberts and more parked along the Crawl route between 6p and 9p. Come visit the drivers and take an up close look at their race cars and trucks. Plus you could come home with a signed Richard Petty polo shirt. Get a ticket for each $1 you donate to Victory Junction, we will drawl a lucky winner at 8:30p! Also visiting us this night will be the Travelers Rest Fire Truck, Police Humvee and US National Guard vehicle. There will be lots to see!

KIDS MATCHBOX RACE & FREE CAR – Come participate in the Greer Real Estate Matchbox 500! The first 100 kids will get a free Hot Wheels matchbox car to race down the track. Test your new cars skills on the wooden track in our informal races. This event is sponsored by Greer Real Estate.

Parking – The TR United Methodist parking lot will be busy with the YMCA’s PB&J Kids Fun Run this evening. If you are in search of parking here are a couple of suggestions: Head to the free lot on Center St between Sunrift Adventures and the Travelers Rest Library, use the gravel lot on Roe Rd across from TR Oriental or hit up the on street parking along Main Street which starts at the Post Office and extends down to Whistle Stop. Events @ Poinsett and Main (Front Lawn outside My Sister’s Store):

• Touch-A-Truck with our First Responders and US Army National Guard. Come see the TR Fire Department Fire Truck, Police Humvee and the US Army National Guard!

• Local artists on Main Street!

• Listen to the sound of the Friday Night Jam Session, which begins around 7p.

Events @ The Grove (Just down from Upcountry Provisions Bakery and Bistro):

• Live music from LOZ will be on the stage at The Grove from 5p-9p. You can also try one of their wood-fired pizzas and sip on a beverage while listening!

Events @ TRee House Cafe & Studio:

• Free event on the patio of the Cafe.

Events @ Monkey Wrench:

• Live music from Mourning Dove will be out on the green space from 6p-9p. Come by, enjoy the tunes and try some of the best BBQ!

Events @ Arts Square (Parking Lot of TR Makers Co and White Rabbit Gallery):

• Richard Petty signed shirt drawing! $1 per ticket gets you entered in the drawing.
