58-year-old Travelers Rest man killed in State Park Road moped crash

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A moped driver was killed in a wreck on State Park Road around 10:20 a.m. Monday.

Jeffrey Dewight Ruff, 58, was driving a red moped toward the city of Travelers Rest when a truck turned in front of him onto Batson Road, causing the moped to crash into the passenger side of the truck, the coroner's office said.

Ruff, of Hilltop Road in Travelers Rest, was pronounced dead on the scene. A dog riding with Ruff was injured and transported to a veterinary clinic.

The coroner's office and SC Highway Patrol are investigating.
