Police seize gaming machines from local convenience store

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest police said they seized three gaming machines from a local convenience store last weekend.

According to the incident report, a Travelers Rest police officer was called to the W.E. Willis #1 on N. Poinsett Highway on Saturday by firefighters who were responding to a smoke alarm call.

Once on scene, the officer said he saw an “unusually small door (with a peep hole installed) that led to a poorly constructed hallway,” which opened into a room where the three machines were located.

The store manager told police she knew the machines were in the storeroom, but she said the machines did not have any gambling games on them, the report states.

Police seized the three machines, stating that they were “consistent with illegal gaming.”

The case is currently being investigated by SLED, according to Chief Lance Crowe.
