Man arrested after being shot by Travelers Rest homeowner

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A 40-year-old Travelers Rest man who was shot by a homeowner during an altercation on Monday has been arrested on charges of 3rd degree assault & battery and stalking, according to a media release by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators allege that Jason Paul Sikkila drove to a residence on Sam Langley Road in Travelers Rest and an altercation with the homeowner ensued. At some point, Sikkila allegedly attacked the victim while he was sitting in his vehicle, and, acting in self-defense, the victim obtained a firearm that was in his truck and shot Sikkila at least one time.

Sikkila fled the scene and deputies located him a short time later near Pine Log Ford Road.

After being treated for non-life threatening injuries, Sikkila was transported to the Greenville County Detention Center, where he remains on a temporary bond.

Investigators did learn that Sikkila and the victim are acquaintances and have known each other for a period of time, according to the release.
