Sara Phillips Jones Day celebrated in Travelers Rest

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Sara Phillips Jones Day was held on June 28 in Travelers Rest, honoring a registered nurse who spent 42 of her 65 years in nursing at Travelers Rest Family Practice.

To celebrate the day and the long years of service she provided to patients of Dr. John H. Holliday, Danny and Maryellen Holliday have established the Sara Phillips Jones, R.N. endowed scholarship at Greenville Technical College. Preference for scholarship funds will be given to graduates of Travelers Rest High School and the surrounding area.

“We are grateful to Danny and Maryellen Holliday for honoring a special person with funds that encourage others to follow in her footsteps,” said Ann Wright, vice president for advancement with the Greenville Tech Foundation. “Mrs. Jones encourages students to find their life’s purpose as she did and then work tirelessly to achieve it. This scholarship will provide assistance and encouragement as they complete that work and prepare to enter a rewarding career field.”

“Sara was a tremendous support to my dad and to the many patients they assisted over the years at Travelers Rest Family Practice. Serving in the medical profession was a lifelong calling for Sara and my Dad, and they were well known for sincere compassion and strong integrity,” said Danny Holliday, who celebrated the scholarship with Sara, friends and family, and Travelers Rest Mayor Brandi Amidon.

“We are happy to recognize Sara, and we hope the scholarship in her name will help others who have the same potential for providing excellent patient care,” Holliday said.
