Travelers Rest teen charged with impersonating officer

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A 17-year-old from Travelers Rest has been arrested on charges of impersonating an officer, according to investigators at the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Thomason Michael Barrett Hand, a senior at Blue Ridge High School, is charged with four counts of impersonating an officer after investigators said he represented himself as such at four separate locations in northern Greenville County.

Investigators said Hand displayed a badge, handcuffs, a radio and what appeared to be a handgun on his waist.

Investigators said that Hand was able to acquire the law enforcement equipment through a relative who is a law enforcement officer, without the relative having knowledge of these actions.

Hand was transported to the Greenville County Detention Center where he was released on a $4000 bond.
