Arthur Stamler, 89 - Travelers Rest
Dr. Arthur Alan Stamler, 89, of Travelers Rest, SC, died peacefully surrounded by family, May 13, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Leona Geismar Stamler, the love and light of his life.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late David Archer and Anna Bloch Stamler.
He was a graduate of Wagner College, Louisiana State University and the Medical College of South Carolina. He was a retired pediatrician and a member of the Temple of Israel. He served as a Captain in the Medical Corps of the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. He was a past president of the Jefferson Parrish (LA) and the Morgan County (AL) Medical Societies, dedicated member of the Partners of the Americas, past member of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners, chapter leader of Upstate Us TOO, and was devoted to the civil and human rights of all people.
Surviving are his children, Mike (Gayle) Stamler of Bend, OR, Jo (Roger) Thompson of Travelers Rest, SC, Vicki Vessier of Santa Fe, NM and Becky (Lisa) Stamler-Macdonald of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Zachary and Jessie Stamler, Amanda (Jon) Solomon and Sarah Thompson and her fiancé, Louis Settle; great grandchildren, Daniel and Joshua Solomon and Wyatt Settle; and siblings, Betty Spellman, Marjorie Bergemann Snyder and Martin Stamler.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 16, 2014, at 2:15 p.m. at the Temple of Israel, where the family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Temple of Israel, 400 Spring Forest Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, is on charge of arrangements.
