Travelers Rest couple donates $3 million to support NGU ministry scholarships

TIGERVILLE, S.C. — North Greenville University recently announced a $3 million donation from Travelers Rest residents Dr. T. Walter and Christine Brashier which will be used for undergraduate and graduate scholarships.

Funds from the donation, which will be divided equally between the T. Walter Brashier & Family Scholarship Fund and the new T. Walter Brashier Family Christian Ministry Graduate Scholarship Fund, will be available immediately for scholarships to assist new students who are enrolling in Fall 2019.

The T. Walter Brashier & Family Scholarship Fund was originally established in 1998 for undergraduate students pursuing church-related ministries. The scholarship has been amended to now include assistance for dependent students of pastors, ministers, and church-based staff. The scholarship guidelines indicate that preference will be given to students from the Upstate of South Carolina.

A new endowment, the T. Walter Brashier Family Christian Ministry Graduate Scholarship will provide financial support for graduate-level students seeking degrees through the university’s Graduate School of Christian Ministry located at the Tim Brashier Campus in Greer.

“Dr. Brashier is one of the most strategic business leaders I’ve ever known, and his strategic passion for helping students pursue a Christ-centered education is inspiring,” said NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr. “For decades, his philanthropy has led the way for our community and once again, he is demonstrating his heart for students from the Upstate. He continues to generate a lasting legacy at this university, where Christ truly makes the difference.”

The Brashiers have been long-time supporters of NGU. Their generosity to the university has spanned over four decades. Their first commitment was a downtown office building in the 1970s. Since that time, they have started undergraduate and graduate scholarships, supported several capital projects, gave the lead gift to start the T. Walter Brashier Graduate School, and served on several university committees, boards, and councils.  In 2016, Brashier led the university in the launch of what is now the Tim Brashier Campus at Greer, which houses professional and non-traditional academic programs, including the graduate Physician’s Assistant program.
