Update: 51-lot Tubbs Mountain Road subdivision put on hold

Update (Sept. 25, 2019):

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — At the request of the developer, the proposed 51-lot subdivision on Tubbs Mountain Road was removed from the Sept. 25th planning commission agenda at the developer's request. We will update this story when and if conditions warrant.

Original article (Sept. 19, 2019):

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — An online petition has been started to oppose the development of a 51-lot subdivision on Tubbs Mountain Road near Upcountry Lane, just north of Travelers Rest city limits.

As of the time of this writing, more than 250 people had signed the Change.org petition: "Reject the approval of Tubbs Mountain Estates Subdivision."

The project, proposed to be built on 53.60 acres by Steve Allison of Murrells Inlet, is slated to go before the Greenville County Planning Commission on Sept. 25.

According to the petition, "it is believed that the attached plat does not adhere to section 3.1 of the Greenville County Land Development Regulations."

Reasons cited in the petition include:

• Infrastructure: "Tubbs Mountain Rd. and the water supply are insufficient to accommodate 51 new housing lots...Tubbs Mtn Rd. is a rural road incapable of supporting the additional traffic from the new subdivision."

• Density: "The properties on Tubbs Mtn Rd. surrounding the proposed subdivision consist primarily of multi-acreage plats. The proposed density of the subdivision is not compatible with the surrounding land density."

• Environmental: "There is concern of disrupting the natural habitat of the area."

The planning commission meeting will be held on Wed., Sept 25 at 4:30 p.m. in County Square conference room D. Public comment will be allowed.
