Local State Farm agent donates fire prevention kit
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Insurance agents know first-hand the trauma a family faces following a devastating house fire, and that's why local State Farm agent Steve Borklund said he wanted to take a proactive approach to work with local fire departments to help reduce house fires.
At Thursday's city council meeting, Borklund donated a fire prevention kit to the Travelers Rest Fire Department ahead of National Fire Protection Association Fire Prevention Week. The kit contains educational fire prevention materials for homeowners and children that firefighters can share at fire stations or at community events.

“We hope this donation will help raise awareness and reduce fire losses in the Travelers Rest community,” Borklund said.
Fire Prevention Week is October 6-12. The theme for 2019 is: "Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape."
