James Kates Sr., 81 - Marietta

James Edward Kates, Sr., 81, of Marietta, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019.

Born in Lexington, KY, he was a son of the late Johnny and Venus Allen Kates. He was retired from drywall construction and attended Bible Deliverance Temple in Marietta.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Shirley Green Kates; sons: James E. Kates, Jr(Crystal), Dennis Lee Kates(Susie), Larry Freeman, Benny Freeman, David Freeman; daughters: Wanda Reeves(Roger), Sherrill Morgan; brothers: Clarence Kates(Linda), Vernon Kates, Junior Kates; sisters: Louise Mottie, Linda Kates, Kathy Reling, Carolyn Green(George); 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he was predeceased by a brother: Roger Kates; and sister: Norma Jean Goodman.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 1pm until 2pm at Bible Deliverance Temple.

Funeral services will be Wednesday September 25, 2019 at 2pm at Bible Deliverance Temple with burial to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park.
