GREENVILLE, S.C. — Three people were killed in a crash near Furman University on Saturday, the Greenville County Coroner's Office said.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 6:10 p.m. on the Hwy. 25 Bypass (White Horse Road), near Duncan Chapel Road and the Furman University golf course.

One of the victims was identified as 21-year-old Jorge Alfredo Gomez De La Cruz, who died at the scene. He was the restrained driver of a Toyota Corolla that reportedly crossed into oncoming lanes of traffic during a rain storm, according to Coroner B. Parks Evans.

A second victim, identified as 30-year old Hector Ruiz De La Cruz, was an unrestrained, rear-seat passenger in the Toyota Corolla. He was pronounced dead at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Evans said.

According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, the Toyota was traveling south when it crossed the center line, striking a pickup truck traveling north. Four people inside the truck survived the collision and were transported to the hospital for their injuries, the extent of which is unknown.
