Lady Devildogs fall to Greer

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — The Travelers Rest High School Lady Devildogs basketball team lost to the Greer High School Yellow Jackets 62-49 Friday night. 

Mallory Bruce led the Lady Devildogs in scoring with 24 points and Kloey Pickens added 15.

Travelers Rest scored the first seven points in the game but then Greer ran off 14 consecutive points to lead 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets built a 15-point lead, 28-15, with under one minute remaining before Riley Brown’s three pointer ended the first-half scoring to pull the Travelers Rest within 10 points, 28-18, at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Lady Devildogs used six straight points from Pickens to pull within 32-28 with just under five minutes left and then cut the Greer lead to two points, 37-35, with 1:29 remaining. Greer outscored Travelers Rest 6-2 to end the quarter to lead 43-37 entering the fourth quarter.  Pickens scored 10 points in the third quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Lady Devildogs 19-12, including six free throws in the final minute, to seal the win.

Following the game, Robert Poole and Joey Batson were inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Lady Devildogs will play at Greenville High School Tuesday, February 4 and host Berea High School Friday, February 7 at 6 p.m.
