David Johnston, 76 - Travelers Rest

David Patton Johnston, 76, of Travelers Rest, SC, passed away on May 29, 2021, following a brief illness.

Born on April 19, 1945, in Marietta, SC, to the late B.V. and Fannie Mae Miley Johnston.

David “The Cabinet Man” was a master cabinet builder and owner of Marietta Woodworks. His talent and craftsmanship are displayed in homes throughout the upstate and coastal South Carolina. David enjoyed playing golf, taking long drives, attending car shows, playing with his three grandchildren and his many beloved nieces and nephews. He loved his church and church family. A longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, David volunteered whenever he was needed and held many positions including Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent.

David is survived by the love of his life and wife of nearly 51 years: Sylvia Justice Johnston; his son and golf buddy: David Johnston, Jr. (Amanda); grandchildren: Mackenzie, Madison, and Oliver Johnston; two sisters: Mildred McConnell, Joyce Brown; his family by marriage: Gerald Justice (Judy), Jerry Justice (Patty), Sharon Williams (Danny), Sandy Sanders (Bill) and Sherry Edwards (Jeff). Along with his parents he was predeceased by his brothers: Barney, Bud, Bobby, Ronnie, and Harold Johnston; and sisters: Mona Moore and Doris Thompson.
A favorite verse of David’s was Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Bethany Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 3, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Bethany Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the home.
