Christopher “Matt” Abercrombie, 61 - Travelers Rest

Christopher Madison “Matt” Abercrombie, 61, born October 8, 1960, went home to be with his Lord on September 30, 2021.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Charles L. and Eva Crumley Abercrombie. He was a member of the 1978 graduation class from Travelers Rest High School and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Matt suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident while attending The University of South Carolina and was unable to finish but never stopped loving his Gamecocks. His brain injury never took away his smile or his love for people, he never met a stranger, nor did he ever forget his friends and classmates. He loved Travelers Rest where he has lived since moving from Sandy Flat. Whenever he saw new landscaping and flowers in Travelers Rest, he would be so excited and comment “how beautiful.” Matt always left a lasting impression on whomever he met and always took time to talk to whoever’s path he crossed. If he met you, he didn’t forget you.
Thank you to all for loving Matt and especially all his special “girl friends” who spent time with him and brought him so much joy. And thanks to all the amazing nurses, therapists, and doctors of St. Francis Hospital, St. Francis Cancer Center at Millenium, and of course Open Arms Hospice who were his “angels”, and all the other amazing special people in his life who filled the room with love as he went to heaven. Heaven sure is sweeter now, all that knew him would agree.
He is survived by his sister: Gigi Davis(Pete); great-niece: Abigail McCreary; half-sister: Stephanie Wood; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Along with his parents he was predeceased by a half-sister: Kim Abercrombie.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 8, 2021, from 2pm until 3:30pm at Bethany Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 8, 2021, at 3:30pm at Bethany Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church-Youth Department 30 Bethany Rd. Travelers Rest, SC 29690. The youth came to sing to Matt during his illness, he loved them all and it made him very happy.
