Coroner IDs pedestrian killed along Geer Highway

MARIETTA, S.C. — The coroner has identified a Marietta man killed after he was hit by a vehicle along Geer Highway Friday night.
Senior deputy coroner Jenn Cason said 39-year-old Joe Lewis Cruell was struck by an SUV in the 3600 block of Geer Highway around 10:45 p.m.

Cruell was airlifted to the hospital, where he later died, Cason said.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers, the SUV was travelling west on Geer Hwy. when the vehicle struck Cruell.
The cause of death was determined to be from blunt force trauma of the neck, according to the coroner's office.
