Childs Law Firm opens on Center Street

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Childs Law Firm, formerly located in the Cherrydale area, will open on Mon., Nov. 1 at its new location on Center Street in Travelers Rest.

Across the street from the Travelers Rest library, the firm is located in a 1940s historical home, known locally as the home of former Travelers Rest High School teacher and coach Charles Wilkie “Wick” Hart.

Childs purchased the property and began renovations last year, saving the "integrity and flavor" of the home during renovations, including preserving its brickwork and design, saving the hardwood floors, and even keeping the original coal basket in the lobby.

"We also found a lot of interesting things during renovations, from old football helmets and stadium lights and even a WWII bomb," Childs said, adding that the ordinance was non-explosive and probably from Lake Issaqueena in Oconee (where there was a practice bombing range).

Childs, who grew up along Geer Highway, went to Slater-Marietta Elementary and graduated from Travelers Rest High School in 1977, says the move is a "coming home" for him.

"I'm looking forward to being closer to the community that I grew up in," Childs said.

An open house will be held at a later date once the pandemic eases, according to Childs.
