Greenville's ban on talking on phone while driving no longer enforceable
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The city of Greenville's recently enacted ban on talking on a hand-held device while driving is no longer enforceable, according to a report in The Greenville News.
Earlier this week, Gov. Nikki Haley signed into law a new statewide texting ban that overrides any local ordinances
Eric Conner reports that city police can no longer pull motorists over simply for talking on their phones.
The new restrictions address only text-based communication while a driver is in motion. Text-based communication is allowed when stopped, such as at a stop sign or red light.
The fine is $25, with a maximum $50 fine for any subsequent offense, and a violation isn't reported to insurance and doesn't count against points on a driver's license, according to the report.
