Doris Louise Langer Miller, 87 - Greenville

Doris Louise Langer Miller, 87, passed away June 12, 2014 at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC. She was the first in her family born at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT on December 26, 1926, and was the youngest of five children. Her parents were Arthur Oswald and Mary Hedwig (Fratscher) Langer. Her older siblings were Walter, Oswald, Marie and Richard. They lived on the family farm, Tri-town farm, in North Canton, CT. She married Julius Arnold Miller, son of Arnold LeRoy and Grace Mae (Ramsdell) Miller, on September 1, 1951 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Burlington, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her siblings.

After Doris and Julius married, they lived in Northampton, MA, where she worked at the town park. She and Julius moved to Newington, CT, where she worked at the American Radio Relay League. After the family moved in 1965 to Morristown, TN, she became a stay at home mom. In 1972 the family moved to Candler, NC. After Julius died in 1998, she lived alone in Candler until 2013 when she moved to The Woodlands at Furman in Greenville, SC.

She was an avid bowler (having won the Presidential Physical Fitness Award), and she loved gardening in her wild flower garden. Later in life she became interested in genealogy and helped research the family lines. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Candler, NC.

She leaves her sons Jay and his wife Ann from Monument, CO, Ross and his wife Cheryl from Ayden, NC, and Curt and his wife Nerissa from Greenville, SC; her daughter Dr. Valerie Miller from McDonough, GA; granddaughters Stephanie Thurber and her husband Tim in Durham, NC, and Tina Miller in Reno, NV; grandsons, Augusto "Tata" Banzali and his wife Anna Louise of Mississauga Canada, and John Paulo Banzali of Greenville, SC; great-granddaughters Amelie Thurber and Sophia Banzali.

A visitation will be held at St. Joan of Arc in Candler, NC from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday June 16. A funeral service will be held in Canton, CT at Vincents Funeral Home, located at 120 Albany Turnpike, on Saturday June 21 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow immediately at Hop Meadow Cemetery, Simsbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
