Walter Dewitt Edwards, Sr., 93, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his home.
Born in Commerce, GA on March 23, 1921 he was the son of the late Clarence C. and Margie Faulkner Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a WWII Air Force veteran who was a part of the historic D-Day invasion of Normandy. He enjoyed gardening, and was a member of Clearview Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Lounelle Adams Edwards; 1 daughter, Sandra (Roy) Burns; 4 step-children, Steve Bragg, Barbara (Ronnie) West, Patsy (Winfred) Pitts and Cheryl (Reggie) Reynolds; 2 granddaughters representing their father, Walter D. Edwards, Jr. (DeDe), Lisa Edwards Hester (David) and Tracie Edwards Adkins (Steven); 3 grandchildren, Jean (Buster) Hines, Janet (Mike) Bochino and David (Wanda) Burns; 8 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Mr. Edwards was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby Hughes Edwards; a son, Walter Dewitt Edwards, Jr., and a sister, Sue Ellis.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Clearview Baptist Church with visitation prior from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
