Lions Club 'Clean Sweep' event raises $500

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest Lions Club members raised $498 at their "Clean Sweep" fundraiser, held Saturday at the Cafe at Williams Hardware on Main Street.  

Proceeds from the event will benefit local Lions Club efforts of assisting the needy with vision assistance, including free eye tests and glasses, according to the group's president, Steve Waddell.

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest Lions Club members will be selling brooms ($12 - $14/each), whisks, dustpans, mops and more on Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Cafe at Williams Hardware on Main Street.

Proceeds from the event – “Clean Sweep Saturday” – will benefit local Lions Club efforts of assisting the needy with vision assistance, including free eye tests and glasses.

According to the official website, Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization, with more than 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.

Although the Travelers Rest Lions Club primarily provides vision services for those in need, the group has historically contributed to a variety of well-known projects and organizations, including Wounded Warrior Project, Camp Independence of the American Diabetes Association and Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Recent local efforts of the Travelers Rest Lions Club include providing a scholarship to YMCA of Greenville in memory of Cindy Kavanagh, raising funds for the Travelers Rest Relay For Life, donating items to the Travelers Rest Police Department Toy Drive and presenting a four-year scholarship to a Travelers Rest High School student to attend Winthrop University.
