Missing hiker found at Jones Gap State Park

Update (11:15 a.m.): A 79-year-old hiker with non-life threatening injuries has been extricated from a ravine and will be transported by ambulance. GHS MedTrans has been cleared from the scene.

Update (10:45 a.m.): Emergency personnel are working to extricate the hiker. GHS MedTrans is at the scene to airlift the patient, who is said to be suffering from hypothermia. No additional details as to the person's condition are available at this time.

MARIETTA, S.C. – Jones Gap State Park was closed Sunday morning as emergency responders and volunteers searched for a missing hiker.

Park employees discovered a vehicle Saturday evening in the parking lot when they were closing, and a search went on throughout the night.

According to scanner traffic, the hiker was found around 9:30 a.m. near the power lines that run through the park, but the person's condition is unknown at this time.

Crews from River Falls, Slater-Marietta, Glassy Mountain and Cedar Mountain fire departments as well as members of the Greenville County Emergency Response Team are at the scene.
