Meals on Wheels volunteers needed in northern Greenville County
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Greenville County Meals on Wheels is in search of volunteers in northern Greenville County.
The group offers free meals to individuals that have been referred to the organization by a physician or social service agency, and there are currently more than 175 clients in the greater Travelers Rest area.
“It is so easy to make a tremendous impact by delivering a meal and a smile to someone in need,” Julia Accetta, director of communications, said. “Our clients are hungry for the food but they are even hungrier for that human touch that means so much.”
Driver openings are available Monday through Friday, and Meals on Wheels will work with prospective volunteers to find compatible routes that work with their schedule, availability, and location within Greenville County.
"Unfortunately, we have some clients in the northern part of the county that receive frozen meals becuase we don't have enough drivers to get meals to them every day," Accetta said.
In the Travelers Rest area, meals are brought to the First Baptist Church of Travelers Rest each weekday at 10:45 a.m. Volunteers can sign up to help distribute meals once a week, once a month or somewhere in between.
Delivery on a normal route usually takes 1 to 1.5 hours, Accetta said.
In addition to individuals, volunteering for Meals on Wheels is also a great opportunity for families, groups, churches, organizations, and corporations.
