Northwest Middle's 'First Steps' program helps prepare students for upcoming year
TAVELERS REST, S.C. – Northwest Middle School recently hosted Panther’s First Steps to Success, a program designed to support rising sixth-graders as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
Students in attendance learned about basic school procedures, worked with study skills, and trained on strategies to attack tests, homework, and projects.
Students also got a firsthand look at new technology that will be used at the school this year. Northwest Middle recently purchased nearly 200 devices, including Nook HDs and Google Chromebooks.
The Panther’s First Steps to Success program was made possible through a grant from the South Carolina Dept. of Education At Risk Initiative Office. The grant provided the school with nearly $267,000 over a three-year period to advance skills and activities that promote student learning.
