Cliffs donates $27K gift to Culinary Institute of the Carolinas
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – The Cliffs, a collection of exclusive, residential communities located between the Travelers Rest area and western North Carolina, recently donated china and glassware valued at more than $27,000 to Greenville Technical College's Culinary Institute of the Carolinas.
Skills taught at the state-of-the-art institute include the fundamentals of culinary and baking science, food preparation and presentation, quality standards and food regulations, nutrition, and more. Students also gain real-world experience while serving customers during special events held in the upscale dining room.
The Culinary Institute offers an associate in applied science degree in Culinary Arts Technology along with two certificates in applied science – Baking and Pastry Arts and Culinary Education. The Culinary arts concentration of the associate degree is accredited by the American Culinary Federation Educational Foundation, which means that the program meets or exceeds an established standard of excellence and remains current with industry expectations.
“The Cliffs is proud to support the culinary programs at Greenville Technical College," said David Sawyer, executive vice president of Cliffs Clubs. "We look forward to employing their talented apprentices and alumni in our 21 dining outlets throughout our seven clubs.”
“We deeply appreciate a gift that will be used for years to come by the students who enroll in our program and the guests they impress at culinary events on campus,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College.
“Community partners such as The Cliffs strengthen our program through generous gifts, and for that we are very grateful,” said Chef Alan Scheidhauer, department head for the Culinary Institute. “Our students gain hands-on experience in all aspects of fine dining, and serving what they have created on fine china is part of that educational experience.”
