Historical Society launches video tour of Main Street properties

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – The Travelers Rest Historical Society has released an online video series that mixes stories of the present with the accounts of days gone by at five historic locations, all located along Main Street.

“Tour Travelers Rest,” features short video presentations on the former Spring Park Inn (now a private residence), Cafe at Williams Hardware, Magnolia Inn, Sunrift Adventures, and Whistle Stop at the American Cafe.

“The idea is that visitors will see these videos – soak in the stories and the history – and then come to visit us and the buildings in their current state,” said Brandy Amidon, who helped to spearhead the project.

The videos, which were produced by Travelers Rest-based Noble Fox Creative, can be viewed below or on the Travelers Rest Historical Society website here (along with links to maps of the corresponding locations).

The project was funded through a Greenville County accommodations tax grant, according to Amidon, who added that the goal was to add more properties to the series.

"The five buildings were chosen based on their location downtown and historical contributions to the town of Travelers Rest," she said. "We hope this video tour is successful at bringing in visitors, allowing us to expand the tour to other locations next year."

The Travelers Rest Historical Society also operates the History Museum of Travelers Rest, which is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Located at 3 Edwards St., admission to the museum is free.
