TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – A fire that destroyed a home in northern Greenville County on Sunday is being investigated as suspicious, according to Glassy Mountain Fire Dept. officials.

Firefighters responded to the River Road home, located off Hwy. 25 above Hwy. 11, around 11:15 a.m. After arriving on the scene, additional resources and personnel were requested, including assistance from Slater-Marietta firefighters, to help control the blaze.

"The cause of the fire is being investigated by Glassy Mountain and the Greenville County Sheriff's Office as suspicious," Glassy Mountain Fire Dept. Public Information Officer Jarrod Parker said, although he could not elaborate due to the investigation.

The family was not at the home at the time of the fire, Parker said, adding that they were on vacation out of state.

More than 25 members of Glassy Mountain Fire Dept. worked the fire scene, in addition to the Slater-Marietta firefighters. No injuries were reported.
