Firefighters respond to third house fire in less than a week
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Firefighters responded to a house fire Friday evening on Sweet Gum Valley Road, the third in northern Greenville County since Sunday.
Tigerville Fire Dept. Chief Russell Ledford said the fire was fully involved when they arrived on the scene around 7:30 p.m.
According to Ledford, nobody was living at the residence at the time of the fire, and the home was a total loss.
Ledford said Greenville County Sheriff's Office arson investigators have been called in to assist with determining the cause and origin of the fire, neither of which are known at this time.
This is the third home that has been destroyed by fire in northern Greenville County in less than one week, although investigators have not said the incidents are related.
Deputies have confirmed they are investigating a house fire and suspected burglary that occurred on Sunday on River Road, and arson investigators were also called to the scene of an abandoned mobile home fire early Wednesday on Packs Mountain Road. (Click map above to enlarge.)
Glassy Mountain firefighters provided assistance in battling Friday evening's blaze. There were no reports of firefighter injuries.
