Local historian to lead 'forgotten' textile communities program

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Area historian and author Penny Forrester will lead a program about two area textile communities – Renfrew and Slater – on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Travelers Rest Sargent Branch library.

In addition to first-hand accounts of mill life by several former and present mill residents, “Forgotten Textile Communities” will include brief histories of each plant, slide presentations, and memorabilia displays.

Presenters at the program, in addition to Forrester, are scheduled to include Marian Cooper Bryan, Karen Cleveland, Ann Diamond, Mays Cooper, Jeff Plumblee, Nell Anderson Gibson, Lula Reeves, Joanne Green Turner, David Mauney, Jim Wilson, Steve Parnell, and Bill Cashion.
