Main Street speed limit lowered

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Motorists traveling along Main Street in Travelers Rest will need to slow down as they drive through town.

On Monday, new signage was installed, lowering the speed limit from 35 m.p.h. to 30 m.p.h.

Main Street/U.S. Hwy. 276 is a state-maintained roadway, and according to S.C. Dept. of Transportation engineers, a 30 m.p.h. speed limit has become the standard in downtown settings.

For motorists traveling north through town, the new speed limit begins at the Roe Center Court intersection, about where the Hampton Inn is located. For motorists traveling south, the new speed limit will begin just before the Center Street/McElhaney Road intersection, more or less in front of Sunrift Adventures.
