Madeline Haynsworth Chandler, 96 - Greenville
Madeline Haynsworth Chandler died on September 29, 2014, at the age of 96.
Born to Bill and Madeline Haynsworth, she lived in Greenville most of her life. Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she leaves five children: Mary de Monterey, Allen Chandler (Terry), Walt Chandler (Ann), Eve Chandler, and Madeline Fletcher (Parrish); four grandchildren: Amy, Allison, Anna, and Madeline; and two great grandchildren: Kierian and Rhianon. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Mathews, her grandson Rivers Chandler, and her son-in-law Francis de Monterey.
Madeline attended her mother's private elementary school, Haynsworth School, and then Greenville Jr. and Sr. High School. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1938. After college she worked for several Greenville concerns until World War II broke out, when she began to work at Donaldson Air Base.
Madeline was a lifelong communicant of Christ Church Episcopal, and was an active member of several garden clubs, study clubs, the Junior League, and the Assembly. Above all, she was a devoted mother.
A graveside service will be held at Christ Church Episcopal on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 3 p.m.
