Golf tournament proceeds to provide more than 22K meals
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Organizers of the annual Fall Classic Charity Golf Tournament say this year's event raised enough money to have 22,000 meals delivered to homebound residents throughout Greenville County.
Held last Tuesday at Cliffs Valley golf course, nearly 150 golfers teed off in two flights at the Meals on Wheels of Greenville benefit event, first held in 1997.
In the end, the morning victory went to the Michael’s Janitorial team with a score of 53, but Heiser Distributors, whose team played in the afternoon session, came away with the best score of the day, shooting a 52 to win the coveted Don Hammons Trophy.
Players from both first-place teams received a certificate for a new set of tires, courtesy of Michelin North America.
As part of the fundraiser, a pre-tournament Pairings Party was held earlier in the week. Attendees bid on various silent auction items, including entry for two to the Lexus Champions for Charity Tournament at Pebble Beach Resorts in Pebble Beach, Calif.
The winning bidder, Southern First Bank, will represent Meals on Wheels of Greenville and play for a share of the Lexus Champions’ $100,000 purse.
