Fla. brewery eyes Travelers Rest, Asheville for possible expansion

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest is one of the cities a Florida-based brewery is looking at for a possible expansion.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports craft beer maker Cigar City Brewing is considering sites as possible locations for a 50-barrel brewhouse that would back up the company's main brewery in Tampa.

The company is also looking at locations in the Asheville area and in Florida, the report says, adding that there is no word on when a decision, if any, would be made.

According to BusinessWeek.com, craft beers account for about eight percent of the U.S. market by volume, and some say that share will more than double by 2020.

Cigar City Brewing produced nearly 35,000 barrels of beer last year.
